Rechargeable Hearing Aids
Advances in rechargeable hearing aid batteries provide wearers with an environmentally friendly, convenient, simple, and long lasting solution.
Over the past twenty years, the hearing aid industry has seen the switch from disposable mercury batteries to zinc-air and the launch of rechargeable hearing aid batteries. The choices for rechargeable batteries have been nickel-metal hydride and silver-zinc until the recent addition of lithium-ion.
Nickel-metal hydride (NiMH)
NiMH batteries offer a convenient and eco-friendly option, but can be costly. They have historically provided insufficient battery life and demonstrated performance longevity issues due to battery overcharging. We do not fit any hearing aids with NiMH batteries.
AgZn batteries have a longer battery life than the NiMH, but only work in specially designed hearing aids or devices with specialized battery doors. This choice requires wearers to still handle a physical battery that needs to be replaced at least once a year. AgZn rechargeable hearing aids can also use regular zinc-air batteries. This is a convenient option if you forget to charge your hearing aid and need an alternate battery source. We offer several hearing aids that utilize AgZn batteries such as the following devices from Unitron and Oticon:
Unitron Moxi™ Fit R
The Moxi Fit R is the tiniest rechargeable hearing aid in its class. Besides its cosmetic appeal, it offers between 16 and 24+ hours of operation on a single charge depending on streaming time.

Oticon Opn™ miniRITE
Oticon Opn is the first hearing aid to offer a rechargeable hearing aid that connects directly to iPhone®. It uses a AgZn battery that lasts between 15 and 19.5 hours on a single charge.

Lithium-ion rechargeable hearing aids offer significant advantages over their predecessors. There is no battery to change or battery door to open and close. The hearing aid has a lithium-ion power cell that is housed inside the device. Wearers will notice longer performance times with a single charge. The device allows for audio streaming and has enough power for most hearing losses. Lithium-ion hearing aids are environmentally friendly since the power cell lasts several years and possibly the life of the hearing aid. We offer lithium-ion rechargeable hearing aids from the best hearing aid manufacturers including Phonak and Signia:
